November 2008 Unethical Websites

Joox

From a Notre Dame College blog:

Notre Dame students are loving the incredibly easy, yet probably illegal website, Joox.net. This website offers free streaming movies at the click of the button. No sign-ups required and it features tons of movies, many of which are currently in theaters (i.e. Quantum of Solace).

Notre Dame students are capitalizing the crap out of this site, saving tons of money on dvds, netflix, and movie tickets. It's obviously illegal, but there are no downloads, so the risk rests entirely on Joox's shoulders. Probably. It may be wrong, but us college kids are poor, and it's hard to feel bad about ripping off millionaire celebrities.

Chances are that this website won't last much longer, so you may have to take advantage of this while you still can, although I can't condone your illicit, unethical, e-pirating activities. But enjoy & you're welcome!

I guess a Jesuit education isn’t what it used to be, eh? That rationalization for stealing comes right from the playbooks of Bonny and Clyde, Jesse James and Willie Sutton. Yes, Joox facilitates stealing a product that has value, and should be bought. Yes, it probably will be shut down soon.

And yes, Notre Dame students should be able to tell right from wrong, and when they correctly identify conduct as wrong, not do it, and not encourage others to do it either.
